Stellantis will invest about ₹4,000 crore in India over the next three years to localise production, improve customer experience and launch 12 Jeep and Citroën products, the company’s India chief told Business Standard on 15 October 2026. The Stellantis India investment is in addition to an earlier commitment of around ₹11,000 crore.

Shailesh Hazela, CEO and Managing Director of Stellantis India, said the 12 products comprise seven all-new models and five major upgrades. The first launch is scheduled for the second quarter of 2027. The company aims to roughly triple its annual sales to about 45,000 units within three years.

What Will the ₹4,000 Crore Stellantis India Investment Fund?

The money will go towards localisation, customer experience and the product pipeline. Jeep localisation is expected to rise from 70-75% today to about 90%, while Citroën already has more than 90% localisation in India. Stellantis recently acquired full ownership of its Thiruvallur plant, which had been a joint venture with the CK Birla Group’s Hindustan Motor Finance Corporation Ltd.

The roadmap is mainly SUVs, along with a multi-purpose vehicle and a premium pickup. Powertrain options will include petrol and diesel engines, hybrids, plug-in hybrids and battery-electric versions, depending on demand and product economics, according to Hazela.

How Does This Change Stellantis’s Export Plans?

Stellantis already ships Citroën vehicles from India to about five or six countries and Jeep vehicles to three. Right-hand-drive vehicles from Thiruvallur go to West Asia, Africa and Indonesia, while Jeep exports reach Japan and Australia. The company plans left-hand-drive versions, which could open exports to more than 50 countries. Engines and transmissions are also exported, including to Europe. No fixed ratio between domestic sales and exports has been set.

Market Reaction and Industry Response

No stock-market reaction or comment from industry bodies was available in the source report at the time of writing. The announcement was made through an interview rather than an exchange filing.

What Happens Next?

The first of the 12 products is due in the second quarter of 2027. On distribution, Stellantis has about 300 sales and service touchpoints in India, and about 80% of its dealers operate under the Stellantis Brand House format, where Jeep and Citroën are sold and serviced at one facility. The company is considering expansion into Tier-II, Tier-III and select Tier-IV markets and is evaluating shared facilities and mobile services, but it has set no target for network size.
