A new deferred customs duty payment system launched on April 1, 2026 is providing significant cash flow relief for plastic raw material importers. Under the scheme, eligible importers can defer duty payments for up to 30 days without interest, improving working capital management and reducing the financing costs associated with large import consignments.
The facility is particularly valuable for polymer importers who deal in bulk shipments of polyethylene, polypropylene, and engineering plastics from Middle Eastern and Asian suppliers. The ability to defer duty payments aligns import cash flows with downstream sales realisation, reducing the need for expensive short-term bridge financing.
Customs authorities have streamlined the application process through the ICEGATE portal, enabling eligible importers to activate the facility quickly. The scheme is expected to benefit thousands of plastic raw material importers and contribute to reducing overall manufacturing costs in the sector.
