The Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) has called for closer cooperation with India on palm oil supply, sustainable practices and consumer information. The appeal came at GLOBOIL India 2026 in Mumbai on October 1, 2026.
CPOPC Secretary-General Izzana Salleh said India is much more than an export destination and is a partner in food security, resilient supply chains, productive farmers and sustainable growth.
What Did CPOPC Ask of India on Palm Oil?
Salleh said the relationship cannot be built only around tonnes and prices and must also involve listening to Indian stakeholders. Cooperation areas named include reliable edible oil supply, sustainable production, consumer information and education, oil palm agronomy and planting materials, smallholder productivity, and traceability and sustainable sourcing.
How Big Is Global Palm Oil Production?
CPOPC said palm oil production rose from about 66 million tonnes in 2021 to 73 million tonnes in 2025. Deputy Secretary-General Dr Musdhalifah Machmud also spoke at the event.
Market Reaction and Industry Response
CPOPC, the Asian Palm Oil Alliance, the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India and Solidaridad Asia organised a stakeholder roundtable titled Understanding Palm Oil Perceptions and Consumer Narratives in India. The session focused on how Indian consumers view palm oil.
What Happens Next?
The roundtable signals a push to shape consumer narratives and strengthen sourcing credentials. Indian refiners and food processors will watch whether the talk converts into supply commitments, traceability programmes and farmer-productivity partnerships.
