In Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Asian Paints is constructing what may be India’s most advanced, environmentally conscious paint manufacturing facility. The Rs 15 to 20 billion investment creates a flagship exemplifying sustainable manufacturing in India’s chemical industry.

The facility represents revolutionary thinking in paint production. Every process optimises for environmental impact — 100 percent water-based paint formulations eliminating toxic solvents, closed-loop water recycling with 99 percent water reuse, zero hazardous waste with all byproducts having commercial applications, and renewable energy power through rooftop solar and grid electricity using renewable certificates.

Water-based formulations eliminate traditional solvent-based paint entirely. Water serves as the dispersing medium instead of toxic solvents. Manufacturing safety improves dramatically — no flammable vapours, reduced worker health risks, simpler regulatory compliance. Packaging waste is sorted for recycling. Solar energy integration is comprehensive — rooftop solar generates 60 percent of facility electricity. The Indore facility recycles 99 percent of process water with only 1 percent lost to evaporation. Treated wastewater is clean enough for landscaping irrigation.
