Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Liechtenstein’s Hereditary Prince Alois at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on 27 October 2026, with trade, technology and talent at the centre of the agenda. Prince Alois, who is acting head of state of Liechtenstein, is on a four-day visit to India that began on Sunday.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described the visit as “historic” and said it “marks a new beginning” for India-Liechtenstein relations, according to Sibi George, Secretary (West), who briefed the media.

What Did Modi and Prince Alois Discuss?

The talks covered trade and investment, advanced manufacturing, technology, innovation, financial services, agriculture, space, education and skills development. A possible double taxation avoidance agreement was also discussed. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met the Prince before the talks and wrote on social media that the bilateral partnership “is witnessing strong momentum across a wide range of domains.”

How Does the India-EFTA TEPA Fit In?

Liechtenstein is a member of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), alongside Iceland, Norway and Switzerland. The India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) was signed in March 2024 after nearly 16 years of negotiations and took effect in October 2025. Under TEPA, EFTA states have an aspiration to invest USD 100 billion in India over 15 years; this is a stated goal rather than a firm commitment.

Who Was in the Delegation?

Princess Sophie accompanied the Prince, along with a business delegation of senior industry leaders. He was given a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday morning.

Market and Trade Reaction

No market reaction or specific investment announcements were reported in the coverage reviewed. Sibi George said the focus now is on “translating the understanding reached during the visit into concrete projects, partnerships, and outcomes.”

What Happens Next?

Attention turns to implementation of TEPA commitments and any follow-up on a double taxation avoidance agreement. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal also met the Prince during the visit, according to PIB.
