West Coast Paper Mills shares touched an all-time high of ₹909.70 on the BSE on 14 October 2026, rising as much as 10 per cent in intraday trade. The stock has gained 133 per cent over the past seven months, backed by a sharp profit recovery in the April–June 2026 quarter.

Business Standard and Whalesbook reported the move on 14 October. According to Business Standard, the stock was up for the fourth straight trading day and had gained 27 per cent over that period. At 10:29 AM it traded up 8 per cent at ₹897, while the BSE Sensex was down 0.05 per cent. About 1.4 million shares changed hands across the NSE and BSE.

Why Did West Coast Paper Shares Rally to a Record High?

The company’s Q1 FY27 numbers supplied the main support. Profit after tax rose 163 per cent quarter-on-quarter to ₹141.84 crore. EBITDA rose 55 per cent sequentially to ₹247.97 crore. Revenue, however, fell 16 per cent quarter-on-quarter to ₹1,051.26 crore.

Business Standard attributed the profit gain to better operational efficiency in the paper division, higher realisations and a better product mix in the cable division. Whalesbook said management credited operational efficiency and a shift to higher-value products. The quarter-on-quarter comparison is sequential, so it does not show year-on-year performance.

What Role Does the Cable Business Play for West Coast Paper?

West Coast Optilinks, the company’s subsidiary formerly known as Sudarshan Telecom, has commissioned a new unit at Fab City in Hyderabad. Business Standard reports that the unit effectively doubles the subsidiary’s optical fibre cable capacity. Whalesbook says the expansion targets demand linked to BharatNet and 5G infrastructure projects.

Business Standard cites estimates that India’s fibre optics market reached $517.2 million in 2025 and could reach $1,195.7 million by 2034, a 9.76 per cent compound annual growth rate for 2026–2034. These are third-party market estimates, not company guidance.

Market Reaction and Industry Response

Investor Mukul Mahavir Agrawal held a 1.44 per cent stake, or 950,000 shares, in West Coast Paper as of 30 September 2026, based on shareholding pattern data. The sources reviewed did not include analyst target prices, a company statement on the rally or a trade body response. Whalesbook noted that the stock carries sector risks, including the cyclical nature of paper, cheaper paper imports and exposure to raw material costs such as wood pulp and chemicals.

What Happens Next for the Stock and the Paper Sector?

The next company update will be the Q2 FY27 results covering July–September 2026; the sources do not give a date. Readers can watch whether revenue recovers after the 16 per cent sequential fall, whether higher realisations hold, and how the new Hyderabad cable unit ramps up. Industrial Front has also reported on firm kraft paper prices and waste paper import shortages, which shape input costs for the wider paper industry.
